Electrical Equipment Maintenance – NFPA 70B

This one-day NFPA 70B course is for safety, maintenance, and operations leaders responsible for the safety of employees and the reliability of electrical equipment. Energy sources, including electrical, mechanical, chemical, thermal, and others, can be hazardous to employees, contractors, and the overall performance of your energized assets. Workers performing services or maintenance on machinery and equipment may be exposed to injuries from unexpected energization, startup of the machinery or equipment, or release of stored energy.

Lockout/Tagout standards require the adoption and implementation of practices and procedures to shut down equipment, isolate it from its energy source(s), and prevent the release of potentially hazardous energy while maintenance and servicing activities are being performed.

The high-voltage safety course covers the key aspects of OSHA’s generation, transmission, and distribution standard, 29 CFR 1910.269. This standard applies to organizations that generate electricity or transmit energy to others. It also applies to organizations with substations or electrical distribution systems.

Participants will learn to recognize and avoid unsafe work areas during this class. Students will also learn the correct approach distances. Upon completion, attendees will better understand proper voltage-rated tools and the use of proper personal protection equipment (PPE), by educating personnel on issues central to the safe performance of their everyday jobs and loss of life.

This is the original Basic Industrial Electricity class. In this one-day course, attendees will learn the basics of industrial electricity. This class is a discussion on practical procedures needed to troubleshoot effectively. To give participants a solid foundation in industrial electricity, this class starts with the fundamentals of electricity by explaining voltage, current, resistance, and power, followed by a brief discussion of Ohm’s Law.

Participants will learn about motor starters and how they operate in a motor control circuit. This class is great for both the beginner and someone with years of experience but no formal training.

This one-day class is designed for individuals who are already familiar with the concepts covered in our Basic Industrial Electricity class and want to further their training in this field. Attending Basic Industrial Electricity Is not a prerequisite for attending this class, but it is recommended. This class will cover 3-phase motors in more detail than Basic Industrial Electricity. Motor construction, nameplate data, and principles of operations will be discussed, as well as terminal markings, electrical connections, and enclosure styles. Participants will learn how to properly size overloads, fuses, and circuit breakers to protect motors. Students will learn the common causes of failure for electric motors and the steps necessary for troubleshooting. PLCs will also be introduced and discussed in the context of their application to maintenance personnel. This class will be a good introduction for participants with little PLC knowledge. General operations and basic troubleshooting procedures will also be discussed. The material covered in this class is practical and is designed to make an immediate positive impact on your maintenance department.

This intensive one-day hands-on class covers the troubleshooting and repair of control circuits and components. The attendee will build circuits on realistic training panels that contain a motor starter, relays, terminal strips, push buttons, selector switches, and limit switches.

After the circuits are built, the instructor will introduce a realistic fault into the circuit. With the instructor’s help, participants will be asked to repair the faulty circuit using their multimeter and the techniques learned earlier in the day.

This class is hands-on and very practical in its approach to troubleshooting. The examples shown are applicable to practice in any facility. To ensure the quality of this program, this class has limited seating.
