What Does Your PdM Program Tell You?

Predictive Maintenance (PdM) programs have been around for years. Many of them have achieve success in controlling cost and unplanned downtime. However, taking your program to the “next level” isn’t as easy as it may seem. Adding more PdM technologies or expanding the coverage to additional machines may not always result in positive benefits. An area to consider is using the PdM data and results to spot trends in failures, not necessarily on a single machine but across many machine classes. Applying root cause methodologies, these type of reoccurring failure typically point to a lack of precision or procedures in the maintenance process. Identifying and correcting these reoccurring issues will lessen the dependency on predicting the problems over and over again. The results adds true reliability to your process and moves towards a proactive approach of eliminating the failure at the root cause.
